Project of Borjomi Hydroelectric Plant museum

By Decree # 496 of the Government of Georgia of March 14, 2017, JSC “Georgian Energy Development Fund” was obligated to restore the Hydro Power Plant located in the mineral water park in Borjomi  municipality as a monument of industrial and cultural heritage. The Borjomi Hydro Power Plant is the first Hydro Power Plant in Russian Empire. It was built on the Borjomula river. This Hydro Power Plant was put into operation on January 15, 1899. Its total capacity was 140 Hp. The power plant was powered by two pelton-type turbine-generators , each with a capacity of 70 HP. The Borjomi Hydro Power Plant ceased operation in 1950. After the Hydro Power Plant was granted the status of a cultural monument , its restoration became the main issue. The restored hydro Power Plant will serve as a museum.

As part of the museum project, the company announced a tender for June 25, 2020. At this time, the rehabilitation and construction works of the Hydro Power Plant complex have been completed. 

The preparation of the building’s internal concept and external landscaping project is currently underway.
