In 2021, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia as a designated entity nominated Georgian Energy Development for accreditation in GCF. Currently, in compliance with action plan, GEDF was in active phase of implementing policies, developing guidelines and monitoring systems in various directions, including: Gender, Environmental Protection and Social Issues, Administrative, Legal, Financial and Project Management.
The accreditation process in Green Climate Fund ended in 2025. Accreditation will give better possibility to Fund to attract cheap loans and develop more renewable energy projects, introduce new technologies and strengthen the organizational structure of the fund in accordance with international standards.
Green Climate Fund is an operating entity of the Financial Mechanism of the UN Convention on climate change, which is financing the projects related to the climate change mitigation and adaptation in the developing countries. The Fund is considered as one of the largest financial partner organizations for Georgia providing financial support in the fields of climate change mitigation and green economy development.
